After reading Elizabeth Balsom’s letter “Expunge the hard left and Starmer stands a chance” (January 17), Carol Wilcox (background : economics IT)wrote:

If Jeremy Corbyn had become prime minister in 2017 — which would have happened if all of the mainstream media and most of the Parliamentary Labour party and staff hadn’t been working against him – we would have had:

  • a friction-free Brexit,
  • renationalisation of water,
  • gas,
  • electricity,
  • the railways
  • and the NHS,
  • abolition of tuition fees,
  • free broadband,
  • increased funding of local authorities,
  • social care,
  • education
  • and the justice system . . .

And asked. “Whoever would have wanted that?
